Etsy Keyword Research Tool

Choose tags and titles from measured buyer searches, not guesses. RdPod shows how often shoppers search a phrase on Etsy and how many listings compete for it.

On Etsy, your 13 tags and your title decide which searches a listing can appear in. Keyword research is choosing those words from evidence: phrases buyers actually type, with room left for a new listing. RdPod splits that evidence into two kinds and never mixes them.

Two kinds of keyword data

  • Search Volume is about buyers: how many times shoppers searched a phrase on Etsy, measured on a given date. These numbers are measured, never estimated.
  • Keywords is about sellers: how many listings and shops in RdPod’s listing data use a phrase, and how those listings perform.

A phrase can be popular with sellers and ignored by buyers, or the other way around. The second case is the opportunity, and you only see it with both kinds of data side by side.

Measured search volume

For each measured phrase, Search Volume shows:

  • Searches in 30 days: shopper searches on Etsy in the 30 days before the measurement date.
  • Listings on Etsy: every listing Etsy returns for the phrase, not only the ones in RdPod’s data.
  • Searches per 1,000 listings: how much buyer interest there is for each competing listing. Sorting uses a cautious version that discounts small counts.
  • Conversion band: Etsy’s own band for the phrase, from very low to very high, for comparing phrases rather than forecasting orders.
  • Week over week, with a rise marked only when it is bigger than normal day-to-day noise.
  • The measurement date, so you always know how fresh a number is.

Three lanes do the first pass for you. Open doors lists measured phrases with at least 100 searches in 30 days and searches per listing in the top quarter. Rising this week lists phrases whose last seven days of searches are clearly above the seven before. Just measured shows the newest measurements. In the Open doors lane, brand and character phrases stay hidden unless you choose to show them.

Open a phrase to see its 30-day history. 90-day and 12-month history are coming soon. A phrase that has not been measured yet is not a phrase with no demand; on paid plans you can request a measurement for it.

Keyword lookups in RdPod listing data

Look up a phrase, or several at once, to count the listings and shops in RdPod’s data whose titles contain every word of it, with their measured views per day and the share held by newer shops. A phrase where many listings exist but few get views is crowded; a phrase with few listings and steady views has room.

Tag audit

Pick a listing from RdPod’s data or paste your own title and 13 tags. The audit checks each tag against measured search data and RdPod’s listing data, and shows which tags have no measurement yet. Tags that repeat each other or run past Etsy’s 20-character limit are pointed out, so every slot earns its place. For a quick check without an account, use the free Etsy listing checker.

Brand and IP flags

Keyword lookups and search screens flag phrases that contain a brand, a character, a sports league or team, or a celebrity name. The numbers are still shown, because seeing demand is useful, but the flag reminds you that using the phrase is your call and your risk. A flag is not legal advice.

A simple way to choose 13 tags

  1. Write down every phrase a buyer might type for the product: the item, the recipient, the occasion, the style.
  2. Look each one up in Search Volume and drop the ones with almost no searches or far too many listings.
  3. Keep a mix: two or three high-search phrases, and several specific multi-word phrases with more searches per listing.
  4. Remove duplicates and anything flagged as a brand, then run the tag audit before you publish.

FAQ

Questions, answered.

Where does RdPod's search volume come from?

Each number is a measurement of shopper searches on Etsy for that phrase in the 30 days before the measurement date. RdPod shows the date with every number and never fills a missing measurement with an estimate.

How much search history does RdPod show?

30 days of history is available today. 90-day and 12-month history are coming soon.

What is the difference between Keywords and Search Volume in RdPod?
