Etsy Listing Checker

Paste a title and your tags to check them against eight rules before you publish. Everything runs in your browser: nothing is sent anywhere and you do not need an account. The example above is a hiking shirt with four problems that are easy to miss: two tags short of 13, one tag too long, a singular and plural pair, and the word “hiking” four times in the title.

What each check looks for

1. 13 tags

Etsy gives every listing 13 tags. Each empty slot is a set of searches your listing cannot match, so use all of them. Etsy does not accept more than 13, so the check also fails when you paste extra tags.

2. Each tag 20 characters or fewer

Etsy does not accept a tag longer than 20 characters. Shorten it, or split the idea across two tags.

3. No duplicate tags

The checker treats singular and plural forms and a different word order as the same tag: “hiking shirt”, “hiking shirts” and “shirt hiking” all count as one. A duplicate spends a slot on words you already have.

4. Tags of 2–3 words

At least 8 of 13 tags should have two or more words. Multi-word tags match the specific phrases buyers type (“hiking gift for her”) instead of one crowded word.

5. Main keyword in the first 40 characters

Put the phrase buyers search for at the start of the title, where it is read first and is not cut off in search results.

6. Title 140 characters or fewer

Etsy’s title limit is 140 characters.

7. No word more than twice

Repeating a word does not add new searches; it only crowds out other words. Short joining words such as “for”, “the” and “and” are not counted.

8. Main keyword in the first line of the description

Optional. If you paste the description’s first line, the checker confirms it contains the main keyword, so the opening sentence says what the item is.

What this free check cannot tell you

These rules check the shape of a listing, not the market. They cannot tell you whether anyone searches for your tags, how many listings already compete for them, or whether a phrase contains a brand or character name. Those answers need data:
